Project One

As a first quarter project our class formed groups to create an 8-clip short film to familiarize ourselves with programs projected to be used for our film opening. As this was my first time dipping my toes into pre-production, production, and editing there were naturally lots of lessons to be learned. The biggest challenge first presented itself as a nonsensical step to the process. Though I imagined deciding who to work with and what story to tell would not be a substantial step it soon deemed itself as what I must most overcome. I don't consider myself to be a strong leader in a group setting so I allowed for the story to be dictated and created by group members. This manifested itself into the creation of a cheesy, not well put together, splice of clips. Though I understand that the purpose of this project was not to tell the best story this did, fortunately, provide for a clear understanding that for the film opening project I should work in a smaller group. Even though I was not a fan of what we were creating, I did have fun filming with my classmates and I was fascinated by the editing process. Though the post production process seemed rather simple since I reminded myself of how much of media requires editing, it proved itself to be a quite tedious process. Nonetheless mashing clips together, testing transitions, and playing around with sound effects was an enjoyable process that also taught me a substantial amount of knowledge that will be accessible to apply later this year.
