Portfolio Post 6 (Week 3): Storyboarding Preparation
Brainstorming
Before we put pen to paper and fully illustrate the sequence of our opening its important to brainstorm and get a general idea of the flow of our story. Specifically. understanding the beginning and opening takes priority over the meat of the clips. I imagine vague shots such as the change from darkness to light with the switch of a light as the very clip to serve as somewhat of an initial transition. A cut to her hand pressing play on her Spotify may shortly follow. These two shots can serve the purpose of setting up initial setting and score; the light will let the audience know that it's nighttime in a home and the music will convey that the music is a diegetic sound (in addition painted nails and a trending phone case will show the modern quality and youthfulness of our opening). Based on much of my research it has been stressed that by simultaneously balancing artsy shots with purpose the cinematography is not only interesting but effective.
Other components of our film that need to be thought of ahead of time is who will occupy our credits. As a title we wanted to preserve the artsy feel so we decided on using "Etonnante" or (the French translation of 'uncanny') uncanny which perfectly describes the uncomfortableness we want to instill in the audience. Other elements of the credits are the director/s, editor/s, cinematographer/s, and actor/s. There are only two of us working on this project and it would be narcistic to fill out our names repeatedly for every credit so I've decided to use famous names such as Stanley Kubrick and Luc Jacquet. However for the production and distributor we will be using our last names.
